The beautiful daughter of Acrocharger pranced eagerly, eyeing the pasture covered in a blanket of dew. Chris led the dappled filly towards the gate, smiling at the thoroughbred’s pricked ears and twitching tail. The two year old snorted as Chris opened up the gate, and had to be circled as he unclipped the lead shank. Feeling herself free, Sweet Silence propelled herself forward with a powerful thrust of her hindquarters. Galloping straight towards the fence, Simmy skidded to a stop in the grass and wheeled around for another turn around the pasture. The rising sun sent the first rays of light sailing through the farm, and Chris leaned against the fence as he watched the spirited filly stretch out and race the wooden fence. Her silver tail flagged out behind her, dappled hide shining in the early sun. Simmy raised up her forelegs, landing them on the ground only to release a lively buck. The thoroughbred flew around the pasture until she slowed herself to a trot and then a walk. Lowering her elegant neck, Simmy’s gray maw brushed across the tops of the green blades, feeling their wetness against her nostrils. Finding a specific patch to her liking, the two year old began to graze, tearing at the grass, the ripping sound satisfying in her fluted ears. Chris leaned against the white washed fence, looking over the filly as she grazed contentedly. They’d merely been in the right place at the right time when she was put up for sale…and now he couldn’t be more thankful. Mr. Duce wanted to give the young trainee a few days to relax and get used to her home, but Simmy already had that done within the first few hours. She was so laid back and relaxed, taking everything in a confident stride. Still, she would only begin her workouts next week. For now, Simmy would have to be content with her regular turnouts. She seemed to have no objections.
With a mouthful of grass, Simmy shook her head to release the dirty that clung to the dangling roots. As she vacuumed the entire mouthful into her mouth, the sleek dappled grey walked over to the fence, raising her head over the fence and nudging Chris’ shoulder. The young man chuckled, rubbing his hand up and down the thoroughbred’s white forehead. Simmy explored Chris’ shirt pockets and then snorted her disapproval when she found no treats. ”I thought we already went through this Simmy,” Chris teased the two year old, and the filly gave him forgiveness by whuffling his Stetson and tipping it off his head. Simmy trotted off playfully before Chris could say anything, and bobbed her head in approval. Suddenly becoming bored with herself as Chris replaced his hat, Simmy looked off over the far end of the fence, patterned ears pointed towards the rising sun. Eyes remained locked on the scenery, and she seemed to be listening to the utter silence. For a moment, nothing seemed to move, and Chris watched the filly watching, suddenly entranced by her regal appearance. There was something about the way she carried herself…the way she handled everything with such dignity. One couldn’t help but look at her twice. She seemed to command everyone’s attention. Whenever she was there, she couldn't be missed.
